CASA Midshore | Volunteer

On April 18, 2018, with National Volunteer Appreciation Month and National Child Abuse Prevention Month as a backdrop, CASA of the Mid-Shore thanked the many Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers from Talbot, Dorchester, Queen Anne’s, and Kent Counties who stand against child abuse and take action by advocating for maltreated children. CASA’s Board of Directors, staff, local judges and magistrates, and many CASA volunteers gathered at Piazza, The Italian Market, in Easton to enjoy an informal evening of camaraderie and delicious cuisine.

In keeping with the combined themes of child abuse prevention and volunteer appreciation, each guest was presented with a blue pinwheel, the national symbol for child abuse prevention. Reflecting hope, health, and safety, the pinwheels are an uplifting symbol of childhood that mirror CASA’s own goal to advocate for every child’s right to a safe, permanent home. CASA of the Mid-Shore’s mission is to provide Court Appointed Special Advocates to all children in our service region who are under court protection due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, or their parents’ inability to safely care for them.

In her remarks during the reception, Executive Director Robin Davenport stated, “National Volunteer Week provides an opportunity to shine a light on the people who are inspired by our mission. It gives us an opportunity to celebrate the power of the individual to spark change and improve the world. However, over the past 28 years, I have had the distinct good fortune to see another kind of power in the collective force of volunteers, staff, and board – united in our goals, and strong in our resolve to help children who have been through outrageous circumstances. I am consistently humbled by your generosity of spirit, your compassion, your courage, and your commitment to uphold our mission to make the world safer, more loving, and better for our children.”
